Parliamentary Election Started in South Ossetia

At 8 a.m., polling stations opened in the Republic of South Ossetia. The fifth Parliamentary Election started. As reported by the Central Election Commission Chairperson Bella Plieva, “even now we observe active participation of voters”. An influx of voters is expected after 11 a.m. According to information received from polling stations in remote villages of South Ossetia, the voting process started there without any problems.”
The Interior Ministry of South Ossetia has intensified its patrolling. All polling stations are safeguarded. The CEC Chair stressed that on 31 May, 34 Members of Parliament (MPs) are to be elected. The Parliament will be formed proportionately to the number of votes according to submitted candidate lists.
All together, 95 polling stations have been opened. Out of them 88 are on the territory of South Ossetia, 6 in North Ossetia-Alania and one in Moscow. The polling stations are fully equipped.
Four political parties are participating in the election: Communist Party, “Edinstvo”, “Fydybasta” and People’Party. More than 70 international observers and 150 representatives of Russian and foreign media are monitoring election. To cover the preliminary election results, an Informational Center of the RSO Central Election Commission was established in Tskhinval.
