The Zar tragedy of May 20, 1992. Witnesses' memories.

Alla Dzhioeva, senior lecturer of the journalism department of the South-Ossetian State University:

No any sensible person will forget the day of the Zar tragedy not only in South Ossetia, but in the whole world, for the shooting of the Ossetian ordinary citizens, including the children, by the Georgian neo-fascists cannot leave anyone indifferent. At that time I was a student of the Faculty of Journalism of the North-Ossetian State University.

That morning, as usual, having come to class, we learned with horror of the crime on the Zar road, but no one knew the details of what had happened. We, the South Ossetian students, rushed to the Government House of North Ossetia, in the hope of finding the reliable information. What kind of inhuman monsters again shed the blood of the innocent people, who were fleeing through the Zar bypass road, because the main road from South to North Ossetia was under the control of the Georgianarmed bands! It so happened that all the young students from South Ossetia gathered at the Government House and were waiting with horror for the information about the dead, afraid to hear the terrible news of their relatives and friends. The residents of North Ossetia joined us, too, seeing the pain and despair in the eyes and actions of so many young people. There is no justification for these crimes, but for some reason, the international human rights organizations keep quiet about this problem, which still has a painful effect on the hearts of the Ossetian people.
