Refugees-Ossetians expelled from Georgia have not received any restitution from the Georgian government, said South Ossetian Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev.
He has stressed that the problem of the restoration of refugees in rights exists for South Ossetia at least since 1920.
"Until now, there are villages in North Ossetia where live the descendants of those who were forced to leave their homes in South Ossetia in the 1920s," Dzhioev said. - Thanks to Russia and North Ossetia they are equippedwith the necessary facilities. But for the lost property and for the damage caused to them in 1920, they have not received any restitution from Georgia yet. "
The Presidential Envoy has reminded that the issue of compensation for damage to 100,000 Ossetians expelled from Georgia in 1989-1992 was also not resolved.
"Therefore, we emphasize every time in Geneva that the refugee problem is more important for us," Dzhioev continued. "There is scope for discussing this problem on the platform of the Geneva discussions. But as long as the Georgian authorities have annually submitted a resolution on refugees and internally displaced persons to the UN General Assembly since 2009, which has a clearly politicized character and comes only from the Georgian position, we believe that discussion of this issue in Geneva is meaningless "
As noted by the South Ossetian diplomat, Tskhinvali and Sukhumi continued to insist on the opportunity to bring to the UN their position, demanding from Georgia to end the politicization of this problem.
The Envoy has reminded that every year the US authorities deny a visa to representatives of the South Ossetian side, in addition, South Ossetia does not receive an invitation from the UN.
"Therefore, every year we send our appeals, a large reference on the problems of refugees, which the Russian delegation to the UN distributes among its members," Dzhioev added.
The Plenipotentiary has also noted that the South Ossetian and Abkhaz delegations made a joint statement on the attitude to the resolution that was adopted recently at the UN General Assembly.
"Every time we emphasize that we are ready to discuss the problem of refugees on any site where we will be equally represented, otherwise there cannot be an objective discussion," Dzhioev concluded.
