President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov called former Georgian leader Mikheil Saakashvili a war criminal, who will have to answer before the tribunal for the genocide of the Ossetian people.
Speaking today at the commemorative events dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the August 2008 war, Bibilov has recalled the treachery of the ex-president of Georgia who vowed to love everything Ossetian and promised to peacefully resolve all conflict issues, but, nevertheless, ordered to destroy Tskhinval.
"He spoke about how he loved Ossetians, honored the culture and traditions of Ossetia. But a few hours later, Saakashvili ordered to destroy us, our mothers, children, fathers, " Bibilov said.
According to the President of South Ossetia, Saakashvili's counted on to seize Tskhinval and raise the Georgian flag over the Republic's capital, but he met fierce resistance of the entire population of the country and the assistance of the Russian Federation.
"He did not expect that the residents of South Ossetia, children, old people and young people would defend their homeland, that Russia would not allow to destroy Russian citizens," stressed Bibilov.
The head of the Republic also highlighted the role of the Russian army in the 2008 events.
According to him, if it were not for the help of the Russian army, South Ossetia would not have existed today, and its defenders would be expected to die heroically.
Drawing attention to the actions of the then leadership of Georgia, Bibilov said that Mikhail Saakashvili would sooner or later answer for the crimes committed.
"I am sure that the war criminal Mikhail Saakashvili will still have to answer before the tribunal," the South Ossetian President stressed.
