The head of the official representative office of the Republic of South Ossetia in Transnistria, Vitaly Yankovsky, took part in commemorative events dedicated to the tragic events of November 1990 in the Transdniestrian city of Dubossary, which marked the beginning of the conflict between Chisinau and Tiraspol.

According to the press service of the South Ossetian representative office in the Transdniestrian Moldavian Republic, on November 2, 1990, the armed Moldavian units attempted to capture Dubossary, but unarmed Dubossarians stood on their way as a human shield. “They were fired upon. Three Dubossarans - Vladimir Gotka, Valery Mitsul, Oleg Geletyuk were killed, 16 people were injured.

Vitaly Yankovsky, speaking at a rally at the stele installed at the site of the tragedy, has noted that South Ossetia and Transnistria are linked by a common historical fate.

“People of South Ossetia understand Transnistrian as no one understands, because they have experienced the cruelty and treachery of the Georgian nationalists. The common historical fate gives our peoples, who felt the bitterness of loss, remembers the horrors of war and strives for creation, a true understanding of the value of peace,” the diplomat said.

Deputy Chairman of the Council of People’s Deputies of the PMR Vladislav Kelyukh, Plenipotentiary representative of the Republic of Abkhazia in Transnistria, Alexander Vataman, defenders of the Republic and residents of the city of Dubossary took part in the mourning event.

The rally participants honored the memory of the fallen Dubossary people with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the foot of the stele.
