The Kosta Khetagurov South Ossetian State Drama Theater has returned from a tour from the Russian capital, where the "Days of the Ossetian Theater on Arbat" were taking place from 5 to 8 April.
The theater's artistic director Tamerlan Dzudtsov told reporters on Friday about the furor that South Ossetian artists made when performing on the stages of the Central House of Actor named after A.A. Yablochkina, Vakhtangov and Russian Academic Youth Theaters.
“We presented three productions to the audience - “Antigone” by J. Anouil, “Julius Caesar” by Shakespeare and “Fando and the Fox” by Arrabal. We specially chose small-scale performances for the tour, since it was supposed to perform in small halls, which can accommodate up to 100 people,” the artistic director said.
According to him, the tour of the South Ossetian theater in Moscow began on April 4, when Antigone was presented on the stage of the Vakhtangov Theater.
“The performance incredibly blended with the color of the hall. In a small room, the artists were close to the audience, which became a test for their creative profession, and for the latter - a kind of shock. "Antigone" made a great impression on the theatergoers, "- said Dzudtsov.
According to him, the performance was attended by Ambassador of South Ossetia to Russia Znaur Gassiev, employees of the Embassy, a spouse of President of South Ossetia Linda Kumaritova, representatives of the Ossetian diaspora in Moscow, theatrical circles of Moscow, well-known critics, etc.
He continued that on April 5, an exhibition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the South Ossetian theater opened at the Central House of Actors.
“We presented old and new posters, photographs, sketches of performances and costumes of our artists. Those who came to the exhibition were delighted and surprised at the level at which our repertoire is being formed. The event continued with the showing of Julius Caesar. We thought that due to the pandemic, fewer people would come on the second day, but there were twice as many, additional rows were set up. Among the spectators were people from Ossetia, our teachers and classmates from Russian theater universities, representatives of the Union of Theater Workers, the Strastnoy Boulevard magazine, critics, theater lovers,” said Dzudtsov.
The artistic director noted that according to the reviews received, the performance is worthy of participation in any foreign festival and recently the audience has not seen anything like it in Moscow theaters.
“Our artists were also at their best, performing on the stage of the Russian Academic Youth Theater with “Fando and the Fox”. This performance was also presented on the last day of the tour at the Central House of the Actor. Among the spectators in the hall were famous Russian artists Yuri Nazarov and Gosha Kutsenko, who were delighted with what they had seen,” Dzudtsov stressed.
The latter, according to him, came to the artists' dressing room and thanked them for their high professionalism.
Dzudtsov has added that on April 7, a creative meeting "870 meters above sea level" (the location of Tskhinval), dedicated to Kosta Khetagurov, was also organized.
