On Saturday, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry issued a comment on the completion of the investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of the International Criminal Court of the events of August 2008.

The International Criminal Court has completed its investigation into the case of war crimes committed during Georgia's full-scale military aggression against the Republic of South Ossetia in August 2008 and does not intend to conduct new investigations.

"The results of this long-term "investigation" are shocking. Completely ignoring the numerous documented facts of war crimes committed by the Georgian military against the unarmed civilian population of South Ossetia, the peacekeeping contingent performing their functions in the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict, the ICC issued warrants for the arrest of three citizens of South Ossetia," the comment says. "The investigators did not find any evidence of war crimes of the aggressor, which used indiscriminate weapons and destroyed the civilian population, and accused representatives of the other side, who became the victim of military aggression."

The Foreign Ministry noted, it is quite obvious that the International Criminal Court did not intend to deal with the situation, as South Ossetia, had hoped at first, and instead of the objective investigation of the military events of 2008, it acted in the originally set anti-Ossetian direction.

"The result of such engagement of the International Criminal Court is obvious: an absolutely unprofessional investigation, culminating in a highly absurd conclusion, which for a long time, if not forever, discredited the entire system of European justice," the Foreign Ministry said in the commentary.
