The suspended Consultations on stability and security in South Caucasus resumed today in Geneva, reported the RSO Special Representative for Post-Conflict Settlement Boris Chochiev.
According to Chochiev, "the Abkhaz Delegation decided to return to participation in Geneva discussions due to changed wording in the finally received report of the UN Secretary General about the UN Mission in Abkhazia".
As earlier reported, on 18 May evening, the South Ossetian side stated that there was no sense in South Ossetia's participation in the discussion of security issues in the absence of Abkhaz Delegation. Russia had supported these serious doubts and the South Ossetian Delegation's position on the issue. The South Ossetian Delegation to the Geneva discussions circulated a statement in which Georgia's actions were condemned and concerns were expressed in relation to "continuous attempts to achieve reconsideration of the existing state of affairs in South Caucasus after August 2008 by fair means of fouls", and to meet this end, according to the statement, "new diplomatic tricks" were used.
