The President of the Republic of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity sent a letter to the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias.
The document reads:
"I address you with words of gratitude due to the significant date in the history of relations between our countries. A year ago, on September the 10th, you decided to recognize the independence and state sovereignty of South Ossetia. This is an important and responsible decision, taken after the tragic events of armed aggression by Georgia against South Ossetia in August 2008, confirmed the unconditional right of our people to freedom, safe life and integration into the system of international relations based on equality.
It has been two years that the people of South Ossetia are living a peaceful life. This is a fundamental right we have been forced to defend for almost two decades of permanent conflict with Georgia, caused by the aggressive nationalism of the leadership of that state late 80s of the 20th century.
I am convinced that the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has laid a solid foundation for further development of bilateral relations to reach qualitatively new level based on the norms of international relations. The intergovernmental documents signed have set grounds for bilateral treaty basis. Now we have more opportunities for expansion of ties in political, cultural, economic and trade spheres.
The visit to Caracas has deeply impressed me. I have warm memories of our meeting and talks.
Your Excellency, on behalf of the people of South Ossetia I have the honor to address you with words of deep gratitude for the recognition of the right of South Ossetia to freedom of sovereign development, for your support of our state in the international arena, and please accept my sincere wishes of good health, happiness and new successes in your highest state office.
I take this opportunity to convey to the people of Venezuela wishes for peace and prosperity ".
