in connection with the adoption of UN GA Resolution on refugees

The Republic of South Ossetia since the early 90s stands for peaceful relations with neighboring Georgia, for fair settlement of the issues of refugees and internally displaced persons in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict in compliance with relevant international norms.
To this end, South Ossetia has always supported constructive proposals and mediation efforts of the international community and individual countries. However, the UN General Assembly resolution of September 7, 2010, adopted by only a quarter of UN member states, is unlikely to contribute to solving the problem, because it completely ignores the realities. The Republic of South Ossetia is a recognized state and its territory should not be considered as part of Georgia, as it is presented in the Resolution. Despite the true state of affairs, it states on internally displaced persons. Thus, upon the Georgian presentation, more than 100 thousand Ossetians expelled from Georgia because of their ethnicity, who found refuge in the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia, were left outside the document notions. In fact, the document submitted by Georgia, has nothing to do with a real will to solve existing problems.

This position of the UN will not help improve the dialogue at the Geneva discussions, which to date are the only place where representatives of South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Georgia can share their views on the entire set of problems. South Ossetia has repeatedly raised the issue on the opportunity to be provided to its representative to speak before the UN General Assembly to articulate the position of the South Ossetian people and present this vision of the situation; so far, the Republic has not been provided with such a possibility.
We believe that the UN should focus on how to influence Georgia to recognize its responsibility for the aggression and its results, as well as on the agreement on nonuse of force, which will help establishing peace and stability in the region.
