Presidential Envoy of South Ossetia on issues of post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev and representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, member of the Russian delegation at the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia M.V. Litvinov discussed the situation in the region and preparations for the next round of discussions, scheduled for June 19-20.
According to the press service of the office of the Presidential Envoy, representatives of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation drew attention to the serious destabilizing role of NATO in the region.
"The ever-growing scale of the military exercises of the Alliance on the Georgian territory poses an immediate threat to the inhabitants of neighboring states, and their orientation makes one think about the real aspirations of Tbilisi, which has not abandoned revanchist intentions," the message says.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the deepening cooperation between Georgia and NATO.
The "military development" of Transcaucasia by extra-regional forces poses a direct threat to Russia. Georgia's partners in the North Atlantic Alliance do not hide that they are arming it precisely to "contain Russia," was stated on Smolenskaya Square.
Moscow warned that the Russian side will be followed by an adequate response to the emerging situation.
"In this situation, the Russian side has the right to take adequate measures to strengthen its security, as well as the security of its allies," stated the Russian Foreign Ministry.
