A group of South Ossetian schoolchildren will go to Nicaragua for the first time, which was one of the first to recognize the independence of South Ossetia. This was reported to TASS by the President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov.

"We agreed to send our schoolchildren to Nicaragua so that they could get to know this country, its culture, see the sights with their own eyes," the President said and specified that the winners of the Republican school Olympiads will go there.

According to him, this issue was discussed during his working trip to Nicaragua on July 19: then an agreement was reached between the parties on the development of economic ties, tourism, education and culture. The head of state has added that a cultural exchange is planned in the form of tours of national ensembles.

He has also noted that Nicaragua has a very large economic potential and South Ossetia plans to develop trade and economic cooperation with it. “For example, Nicaraguan coffee is in great demand, it is valued everywhere, and we also have many other economic common areas that we plan to develop. We will discuss all these issues in detail with the Ambassador of Nicaragua to South Ossetia, who is to come to present his credentials. We will determine the range of specialists who should come to us for a detailed study of certain areas of cooperation," the head of South Ossetia said.

In early September 2008, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, following Russia, signed decrees recognizing the independence and establishing full diplomatic relations with South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
