Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Rashid Nurgaliyev, at a meeting in Tskhinval, said that it was necessary to take measures to combat the threats posed by the biological laboratory in neighboring Georgia.

The head of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov and Rashid Nurgaliyev, held a meeting on the socio-economic development of the Republic. The meeting raised the issue of sanitary and epidemiological threats. Thus, the head of the republican agricultural inspection Alan Margiev spoke about the fight against the marble bug, which was found in the territories bordering with Georgia: in the villages of Karzaman and Sinagur of Dzau District, as well as in Znaur District.

"It is not widespread, but there are concerns about the spread of the bug after warming," said Margiev, adding that he applied to the Rosselkhoznadzor with a request for a party of pheromone traps.

The complexity of the situation emphasized Rashid Nurgaliyev. "We studied this problem. We do not exclude that this may be some kind of strain brought by the laboratory of Lugar. We believe that this is a type of spread of various viruses. This is an element of national security, and it is necessary to take appropriate measures to combat it," said Nurgaliyev.

The Russian side has repeatedly expressed concern about the activities of the Pentagon "in placing its biomedical laboratories in close proximity to Russian borders." In 2015, the Foreign Ministry mentioned in this regard the so-called "Lugar Public Health Research Center" in the suburb of Tbilisi, under the roof of which the medical research unit of the US Army was firmly "registered".

Moscow believes that the US and Georgian authorities are trying to hide the true content and focus of the activities of the military unit of the US Army, which studies particularly dangerous infectious diseases. The Georgian side considers the fears in vain and states that the laboratory deals exclusively with scientific research. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow would request official explanations from the United States about the activities of the laboratory in Georgia, where they could conduct lethal experiments on people.
