The Committee on Youth Policy, Sport and Tourism of the Republic of South Ossetia is presenting at the II Sukhum International Film Festival as the honored guests. As reported to the Res news agency by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee Valentina Gatikoeva, young directors are taking part in the festival.

International Film Festival SIFF 2019 aroused great interest of the audience. The festival is taking place the third day. During these days, viewers had the opportunity to see 30 short films.

“I would like to note that the leadership of the State Committee for Youth Policy of the Republic of Abkhazia has done a great job in order to gather all the participants who represent more than 30 countries. They received over three thousand applications. Of those, they have selected 30 films. Every day we watch these films, and then vote for the one you like,” Gatikoeva said.

An important factor is that the organizers were able to convey to foreign youth that it was not dangerous to come to Abkhazia.

“I think that a similar festival should be held in South Ossetia. We have already secured support in this issue from our colleagues. I would like to note that such events provide an opportunity to rally young people, as well as help in professional self-realization and in the socialization of young people,” she said.

During the trip to Abkhazia, the Committee on Youth Policy, Sport and Tourism of South Ossetia held a working meeting with the Chairman of the State Committee on Youth Policy of Abkhazia Teimuraz Kvekveskiri, where they discussed further cooperation and organization of activities to sign an agreement between the two departments.

The film festival in Abkhazia takes place for the second time. This year, films from 20 different countries were brought to the festival: among them Russia, France, Greece, Kosovo, Iran, South Korea, countries of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Motion pictures will compete in the nominations "Best Acting", "Best Screenplay", "Best Film" and "Best Director's Work."
