A memorial service for the August 2008 victims of the war will be served in the Moscow church

In the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow (the Lower Temple) a memorial service will be served for those who died as a result of the Georgian aggression in August 2008, the press service of the RSO Embassy in the Russian Federation reports.

"In connection with the 15th anniversary of the tragic events of August 2008 in South Ossetia, on Tuesday, August 8, at 11.00, a memorial service will be served for the perished civilians of South Ossetia, the defenders of Tskhinval, Ossetian and Russian servicemen of the Peacekeeping Forces, soldiers and officers of the Russian army, who at the cost of their lives protected the people of South Ossetia from physical destruction," the statement of the press service reads.

Commemorative events will be held in South Ossetia and Russia on the 15th anniversary of the war in August 2008.

On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia committed the armed attack on South Ossetia. As a result of the war, more than a thousand people died, of which 72 were the Russian servicemen. On August 26, 2008 Russia recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the recognition of the independence of the two republics reflects the existing realities and is not subject to revision.
