The Supreme Court of South Ossetia issued a guilty verdict in absentia in a criminal case against three citizens of the Republic - Georgiy Gogichaev, Alan Karkusov and Yanik Karkusov, the press service of the Supreme Court reported on Tuesday.

The department has noted that the criminal proceedings were carried out in the absence of the accused - they were put on the international wanted list.

“The convicts were found guilty of committing especially serious crimes against public safety and public order and other crimes of an extremist nature, namely for the illegal manufacture, acquisition, storage and transportation of weapons and ammunition, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, for actions related to the commission of a terrorist act ", - the Supreme Court said.

By partial addition of sentences for the totality of the charged criminal acts, Georgy Gogichaev and Alan Karkusov were sentenced to 19 years in a maximum security penal colony.

The court finally sentenced Yanik Karkusov, as the organizer, by partial addition, to imprisonment for a term of 22 years.

“The term of serving the sentence is calculated from the date of actual detention and transfer to the system of penal institutions of the Republic,” the Supreme Court clarified.

It should be reminded that at the beginning of April 2006, the above persons, by prior conspiracy, realizing the social danger of their actions, anticipating the possibility of socially dangerous consequences and desiring their occurrence, acting on instructions from the Georgian special services for a monetary reward, committed a number of criminal acts on the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia.
