Aid Provided to Fire-Affected Residents of Dzau District

The families that were left homeless after the recent fire in Dzau District of South Ossetia are being provided with aid, reported the Head of Dzau Administration Pavel Kumaritov.
"We provided the fire victims with trailers, kitchen ware, cloths and food", he noted.
Next week, we will install two more trailers. There people can live as long as the problem of housing is not settled. In addition, upon the initiative of district administration, a donation campaign was organized. Residents of the district share the most needed things with the fire victims; they also collect money.

TRANSKAM highway is functioning in its routine mode

The Transcaucasian highway is functioning in its routine mode, reported the Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) of South Ossetia Sergey Sanakoev. According to him, SO EMERCOM brigades were cleaning the road from the snow at TransKAM.
"Yesterday, on 30 January, as a result of heavy snowfall, the level of precipitation reached 10-12 cm. The snowfall had stopped in the morning on January 31. Brigades are clearing the road and this does not hamper the traffic ", said Sanakoev.

Human Rights Situation in Georgia and South Ossetia

The key topic of the event is, as you could have read in the announcement, the human rights situation in Georgia and South Ossetia. We have organized this briefing, for Georgia will tomorrow undergo the Universal Periodic Review – the procedure that allows international community to evaluate in a fair and objective manner the situation on the ground. But nevertheless sometimes UPR encounters a lack of information, and we see a positive role of the NGO community and the civil society as a whole in providing a more comprehensive account of the current state of affairs on the ground.

Comment of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia expresses concerns over the statement of Mikhail Saakashvili, which he made on January 25, live on channel Pervi Informatsioni Kavkazski.
When speaking in the European parliament recently, Saakashvili announced his peaceful intentions and refusal to use military force against South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Now, he says that "war is not over." The recent visit of Mikhail Saakashvili to Washington and his meeting with U.S. senators who promised to "provide Georgia with defensive weaponry in order to enable it to defend against Russian occupiers" also does not comply with his statement that Georgia would not use force to resolve conflicts, moreover that the same statement, word for word, Saakashvili made a few hours before the start of the military aggression of Georgia in August 2008.

The Newly Established Ministry of Construction to Deal With Rehabilitation in South Ossetia

The Ministry of Construction established upon presidential decree on January 22, 2011, will deal with road construction and rehabilitation of municipal sites. This was announced today in Tskhinval by the Minister Chermen Khugaev. According to him, the State Committee for the implementation of rehabilitation projects regardless of the establishment of the Ministry of Construction will retain its functions.

Two Georgian Detainees Released and Returned to Georgia

Two Georgian citizens detained by law enforcement authorities of South Ossetia for illegal crossing of the state border of South Ossetia with Georgia were handed over to the Georgian side, reported the Press Service of the KGB of South Ossetia.
"Kharazishvili Tamaz Nikolaevich, DOB 1956 and Abasadze Sergo Shalvovich, DOB 1935, were transferred to the Georgian side. Another four Georgian nationals arrested for similar violations Iardalashvili Jemal, 1974, Samkharadze Kaha Merabovich, 1984, Tokadze Ramaz Khtisovich, 1975 and Salamashvili Ilia Areshoevich, 1980 are still in the territory of South Ossetia, due to the absence of identification documents " said the press-service of the KGB.
It was noted that the Georgian authorities were about to transfer to South Ossetia the identification documents of the detainees.

EMECOMs of South Ossetia and Russia to sign cooperation agreement

An intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in prevention and management of emergencies is to be signed between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, reported the Minister for Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov. According to him, the agreement will be signed in February 2011 in Moscow.
