On August 8, Pesaro, Italy, will host a memorial action dedicated to the fourteenth anniversary of the start of Georgia's armed aggression against the Republic of South Ossetia. Actions dedicated to the tragic date will also be held in Milan, in Sardinia, and in Sicily, a prayer service will be held in memory.
The event was organized by the Official Representation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia in Italy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia reports on its official website.
Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Italy Mauro Murgia noted that one should not forget about the tragedy of South Ossetia and the attempted genocide of the Ossetian people by Georgia.
"Today, when any provocations against South Ossetia are possible, the broadest international unity of all supporters and friends of South Ossetia is needed. Italy is with you, Ossetia!" Murgia has emphasized.
A rally in support of South Ossetia will be held in Pesaro in the Miralfiore park at 17.00 near the Peace tree.
"At 16.00 a wreath will be laid in front of the monument to partisan martyrs on Colenuccio Square. At 17.30 the anthem of the Republic of South Ossetia will be performed. At 17.45 - a religious ceremony - a prayer service in memory of the Ossetian martyrs, killed at the hands of the Georgian Nazis," the Foreign Ministry said in the statement.
On the night of August 7-8, 2008, Georgia attacked South Ossetia, the sleeping hero city of Tskhinval. The fighting continued for five days and ended with an operation to force the aggressor to peace. Two weeks later, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia.
