Historical memory, Russian language and culture are the foundations of the identity of the Russian Diaspora in European countries - under such auspices the XVI Regional Conference of Russian compatriots of the European countries was held in Belgrade. Chairman and moderator of the conference was the Plenipotentiary Representative of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia in the Benelux countries, Radion Pukhaev, the press service of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic reports.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the event brought together the heads of coordination councils of Russian compatriots from more than 20 countries, as well as diplomats, parliamentarians and public figures from Russia, and representatives of the Serbian authorities.
“Representatives of compatriots from the European countries made reports on the results of their activities, told about the problems they face and shared their ideas,” the press service has noted.
The Foreign Ministry has added that the discussions were held on the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of compatriots in modern conditions and a number of current problems.
The conference took place on December 9-10 in the capital of Serbia - Belgrade.
