The participants of the International Congress "Ethnogenesis and Ethnic History of the Ossetians," held in Vladikavkaz on the initiative of the international social movement "The Supreme Council of the Ossetians," have arrived in South Ossetia. At the entrance to the Republic the guests were met by members of the government of the Republic with the traditional three Ossetian cakes and beer. In Tskhinval the guests were received by the President of the Republic Leonid Tibilov, who welcomed the renowned scientists, studying the Alans history.
The President has noted that he was unable to take part in the Congress, as on that day he had a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"I regret that I was unable to listen to your speeches, but I hope they will be published and I will read them," - said Tibilov.
The President pointed out that both the South and North Ossetia had been actively preparing for the Congress, and has noted that this idea was also supported by the leadership of the fraternal republics.
"I am glad that the Congress was attended by South Ossetian scientists, as the scientists' view of this issue is very important for us," - he said.
According to Tibilov, the Caucasus today is a very complex region where the interests of many countries interact.
"Those interests are not always well-disposed, so we must be ready to face any challenges. And we really need your help. We must objectively assess both the past and the present. First, we must maintain a stable situation in the Republic ", - said the head of state.
He has also expressed the hope that the work done by the scientists will be fully appreciated, and the results will take their place in the world of science.
The Chairman of the international social movement "The Supreme Council of the Ossetians" stressed that the Congress would not have been held without the active support of the presidents of South and North Ossetia.
"I was keeping you informed about the preparations for the Congress. And I would like to thank you for your support and assistance in its implementation "- said Basayev.
Leonid Tibilov has noted that the leadership of the Republic will continue to do everything for the development of science in South Ossetia, and this idea was voiced in his message to the people and the parliament.
"We're planning under to establish a department under the South Ossetian Research Institute that will be studying the modern history of South Ossetia. I think, soon we will receive the proposals for the implementation of these plans,"- said Tibilov.
The head of state has also briefed the guests about the events of the modern history of South Ossetia, noting that over the past 20 years, the Ossetian people were four times subjected to genocide committed by Georgia.
"We are seeking to ensure the genocide to be recognized by the international community. Historical justice should be restored, "- stressed Tibilov.
The meeting was also addressed by the Hungarian scientist Bela Kovacs, who noted that he was representing the Hungarian Alans.
"When the war broke out in August 2008, we expressed our attitude to this by posting on our website that we supported the people of South Ossetia, and would always support them," - he said.
At the end of the meeting the guests were presented with gifts – the books about South Ossetia. Leonid Tibilov has also invited the scientists to the celebration on August 26 on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by Russia.
