In the framework of the project "Open Government" the press center of the State Committee of Information and Press hosted the press conference.
The journalists' questions were answered by Foreign Minister of South Ossetia David Sanakoev. He told about the results of his visit to Moscow, where he had met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. In addition, during his visit to the Russian capital Sanakoev signed an agreement "On the state border between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation."
"There are friendly relations between Russia and South Ossetia; more than 80 agreements and other documents are signed since 2008. The current treaty legally confirms the status of the state border between Russia and South Ossetia. According to the document, the state border between the two countries passes through the delimitation and demarcation points outlined in the result of a joint South Ossetian-Russian commission,"- he said.
According to Sanakoev, the treaty should stop all the talks about annexation, occupation, accession of South Ossetia to Russia.
The Minister has added that during the meeting with his Russian counterpart were discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia, where are considered two issues - security, in particular, preparation of a document on the non-use of force by Georgia, and the humanitarian part of the agenda. People of South Ossetia clearly defined the status of the state; it is recognized by Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Tuvalu. It is important to discuss at the Geneva talks those pressing issue identified by the Medvedev-Sarkozy agreement. Georgia often shows itself as incapable of reaching agreement; this fact is also witnessed by international experts.
South Ossetia will continue to insist on signing a document on the non-use of force.
During the press conference Sanakoev has also expressed concern about the intention of creating the NATO training centers in Georgia. Commenting on the statements of Georgian politicians on "new forms and possibilities of dialogue with South Ossetia and Abkhazia", the Minister has noted that Georgia, first of all, must give a political assessment of the armed aggression against South Ossetia in 1989-2008.
"Today, as you can see, the US and NATO provide military support to Georgia, along with other countries. We would not want this military force to be applied against us again, "- said Sanakoev.
The Minister has also said that the Treaty of alliance and integration between South Ossetia and the Russian Federation has already been considered and adopted by the Government of the Russian Federation.
The Foreign Minister has announced his intention to begin the process of unification of legislation of South Ossetia in the field of customs legislation of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Russian Federation.
