The State Security Committee said on Saturday that a Georgian citizen, who had violated the border and shot at the border guards in Leningor district, was detained.
"On July 11, at about 9:30, a resident of the village of Kvemo-Chala of the Caspian municipality of Georgia, Kakheladze Zaza Mikhailovich, born in 1987, having violated the state border regime, penetrated into the territory of South Ossetia in the vicinity of the village of Akhmadz in Leningor district. When the South Ossetian border guards appeared, the intruder fired several shots at them from a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun. Z.M. Kakheladze was wounded in the ankle by the return fire and was subsequently detained, "the KGB said.
The press service of the committee has noted that at present the necessary medical assistance was provided to the violator, his state of health is satisfactory, stable.
The competent authorities of the Republic of South Ossetia are investigating this incident.
The KGB of the RSO reminded that the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia is under reliable protection, and all its violators fall into the influence sectors of the South Ossetian border forces.
