The initiative group has been created in South Ossetia to hold a referendum on joining Russia, which will apply to the Central Election Commission of the Republic with a corresponding statement, Speaker of the RSO Parliament Alan Tadtaev told reporters.
"The initiative group will submit an application to the CEC, including candidates for commissioners who, in accordance with the Constitution, will document the issue so that the date for the referendum on our Republic's entry into Russia is set.
Literally, in the short term, the steps that are being taken will be visible to the population," the Speaker said.
According to him, the initiative group included the incumbent President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov, ex-presidents, deputies of the first convocation, public figures, representatives of the ministries and agencies.
"All members unanimously voted in favor of holding a referendum, many of them were the initiators of its holding. In legal terms, it must be held flawlessly, we will accelerate the steps in this direction as far as possible.
Holding the referendum is a matter of the very near future. Legal steps are already being taken today that will allow starting the procedure for joining Russia," the Speaker has noted, stressing that joining Russia is the age-old dream of our people.
