South Ossetia Ambassador to Russia Znaur Gassiev took part in the memorial ceremony of laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden in Moscow, the press service of the diplomatic department reports.

Gassiev attended the event at the invitation of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was accompanied by a performance by the Military Model Orchestra of the Guard of Honor.

The foreign diplomats honored the memory of the fallen soldiers with a minute of silence. Together with them, the Deputy Ministers of Foreign affairs of Russia laid flowers at the memorial," the press service has noted.

According to the statement of the official representative of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova, this action unites representatives from all corners of the world and demonstrates that despite attempts to rewrite history, the memory of the events of those years is carefully preserved throughout the world.

“Russia, as a country that suffered so many losses in the World War II and the Great Patriotic War for the sake of restoring peace on the continent, will never allow the lessons of the past to be forgotten.

Our country, together with its allies and like-minded people, will continue the targeted work to counter any attempts to distort the historical truth, including the liberation of the countries of the Eastern and Central Europe from Nazism, which was the result of the joint actions of the anti-Hitler coalition,” the statement says.
