President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov has received a delegation from North Ossetia headed by Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Alexei Machnev.

The head of state has noted that today is a very important day for the people of Ossetia. He has reminded that not long ago the people of South Ossetia honored the blessed memory of the defenders of the Fatherland, as well as the Russian servicemen who forced Georgia to peace and contributed to the liberation of South Ossetia from the Georgian fascism.

Russia restored justice by recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, said Maxim Gvindzhia, Assistant to the President of Abkhazia for International Affairs, ex-Foreign Minister of Abkhazia. The same opinion is shared by the Presidential Plenipotentiary of South Ossetia for post-conflict settlement, ex-head of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry Murat Dzhioev - he has noted that both republics have come a long way in 13 years of recognizing their independence.

The act of recognition marked the beginning of a new historical era for the people of South Ossetia – the era of peace and prosperity, and the date of August 26, 2008 has forever gone down in history as the long-awaited day of the triumph of historical justice, President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov said in his congratulatory address to the people.

“Today we are celebrating another anniversary of the fateful event - the day of recognition of the independence of our country by the Russian Federation.

The recognition of the state independence of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation marked the end of the long-term stage of the struggle of our people for freedom and independence - the restoration of the statehood of Alania, said the Foreign Minister of the RSO Dmitry Medoev.

According to him, Ossetia will always be grateful for this historic decision to the leadership of Russia, to the entire people of the fraternal country for the support that the people of South Ossetia received in the difficult days of August 2008.
