Among the tragic events and dates, with which, by the will of fate, the modern history of Ossetia was saturated, the Ered tragedy occupies a special place. On March 18, 1991, near the village of Ered, with the support of "civilians", Georgian informals put off 25 Ossetians from the Ural military vehicle belonging to the Internal Troops of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs.
March 6, 1993 - The Supreme Council of North Ossetia voted to adopt a resolution recognizing the Republic of South Ossetia. This decision was of great symbolic importance, demonstrating the unity of the peoples of Ossetia and its firm intention to seek the restoration of historical justice. It gave a powerful impetus to the development of integration processes between both parts of Ossetia.
A rally dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from Afghanistan was held in Tskhinval in front of a monument to internationalist soldiers in the Bam microdistrict. Participants in the event laid flowers and wreaths at the memorial, honoring the memory of the Afghans who did not return from the battlefield.

President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov on Monday congratulated the Border Guard officers of the State Security Committee of the Republic on the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the service.
In 2020, the year of the centennial of the genocide of the people of South Ossetia, the Year of Remembrance will be held in the Republic. The corresponding decree was signed by President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov on Friday, December 27, the press service of the head of state reports.
The year of memory is held in connection with "the centennial of the Ossetian genocide carried out in 1920 by the Georgian Democratic Republic, and as a tribute to the national memory of the victims of the genocide tragedy."
In December 2009, Nauru became the fourth country to recognize South Ossetia. On December 16, 2009, diplomatic relations were established between Nauru and South Ossetia.
In February 2018, an agreement was signed on the refusal of visa formalities for mutual trips of citizens of the two states.
In accordance with the agreement, citizens of a state of one party can enter, leave, transit and stay on the territory of the respective states without visas for 90 days during each half-year, starting from the date of first entry.
December 8, 1992 went down in the history of South Ossetia as the day of the founding of national television. Independent television company “Ir” was the name of the first television resource not only in the history of the Republic of South Ossetia, but also in the previous history of South Ossetia. The young republic only recovered from large-scale military aggression.
The head of state of Alania, Anatoly Bibilov, called on South Ossetian artists to develop a sketch for the future monument to the guys opposing the thousands of Georgian hordes on November 23, 1989. He stated this at a solemn meeting dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of the Day of Courage and National Unity. “On the day of the thirty-fifth anniversary, we should lay flowers not on the stone, but on the memorial monument,” said Anatoly Bibilov.
September 17, 2008, after the five-day August war and the recognition of South Ossetia by Russia, was signed the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between South Ossetia and Russia.
The Agreement entered into force on January 20, 2009, and the time period since then has shown the historical significance of the document that laid the foundation for the formation of the legal framework of bilateral relations.
