The situation remains tense. This is how the RSO Interior Minister Valery Valiev characterized the current state of affairs in South Ossetia
"The events not happening in Georgia cause special concerns. Certainly, for the law enforcement bodies the situation in South Ossetia is more important, but the situation in the proximity to our borders also remains in the limelight", said the Interior Minister.
"We are most concerned about the full-scale NATO military exercise in Georgia bearing the risks for security of South Ossetia. With the EU military monitors meant to control and limit operations of Georgian armed forces had in fact withdrawn themselves from fulfilling their mission, no one can guarantee that this exercise are not another preparation for a repeated aggression by Georgian military clique against South Ossetia.
The situation in the Georgian army also raises concerns. Who can guarantee that this drama performance with a mutiny was not aimed at one single goal: to have favorable pretext for introducing a state of emergency in the country?
Due to all these, the RSO authorities and law enforcement bodies closely follow the developments of the situation in Georgia. We preempt possible scenarios and had already elaborated respective action plans if the situation deteriorates. If border protection and rebuffing of aggression coming from outside fall under the functions of our border-guard forces, our responsibility is to ensure that law and order are observed in the country which is more important in the light of forthcoming parliamentary election.
Frankly speaking, there are forces from outside which are acting to breakdown the election in South Ossetia and they ready to use whatever sabotage means available. I would warn these people – we will not allow any destabilization of the situation. The law enforcement bodies of RSO are ready to nip in the bud any such attempts to aggravate the situation in the republic and we have all resources at our disposal to do so", he assured.
