The Central Election Committee of South Ossetia has registered the initiative group for nominating the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of South Ossetia Yuri Dzitstsoity as the candidate for the presidency. As reported to IA "Res" by the CEC of South Ossetia, the initiative group was registered on January 20 and is now eligible to begin collecting 1000 signatures in support of its nominated candidate CEC has already registered the initiative groups nominating Deputy Defense Minister Igor Alborov and the former Chairman of the State Committee of Information, Communication and Mass Media of South Ossetia Georgy Kabisov as the presidential candidates. CEC is also considering a package of documents of the initiative group nominating a Chairman for the RSO Chamber of Commerce Roin Kozaev.
The presidential re-election of South Ossetia will be held on March 25, 2012.
It should be reminded, that the presidential election held on November 27, 2011, won by the opposition candidate Alla Dzhioeva, was declared invalid by the Supreme Court of South Ossetia; as a result the mass protests were held in Tskhinval by the opposition. December 10, 2011 the current president Eduard Kokoity resigned his post and Alla Dzhioeva urged her supporters to end the protest action.
