The Day before the presidential election in South Ossetia is declared the "day of silence." As reported to IA "Res" by the press service of the Central Election Committee, any campaigning, election advertising in the media and on television is prohibited in "Day of Silence".
"The elective legislation determined the so-called day of silence, when the presidential candidates, their action groups and election headquarters are prohibited any propaganda and mass activities, any advertising in print and electronic media, radio and television. Every citizen of the Republic of South Ossetia should one more time think about his choice and make the right decision,"- has been said at the CEC. The second round of presidential elections in South Ossetia will be held on April 8. Two candidates are aspiring to the state high office: former head of the KGB of the Republic Leonid Tibilov and Commissioner for Human Rights under the President of South Ossetia David Sanakoev. The elections will be successful if they are attended by 30% of the registered voters. The winner is determined by a simple majority of votes.
Preliminary results of the presidential elections in South Ossetia will be announced in the morning of April 9. The official results will be announced within the five days after the Election Day. The elected President of South Ossetia will take office in accordance with the Constitution and the law "On the elections of President of the Republic of South Ossetia," the tenth day after the official announcement of the CEC election results. The press service has noted that the elections in South Ossetia will be watching by more than 40 international observers. More than 30 journalists, representing television and radio, print and electronic media in Russia and abroad are accredited for coverage of the election. The Information Center will begin working in the voting day at 8:00 am. All the data from the polling stations will be sent there, and within the day the media will be presented all the information about the voting process In total, according to the CEC, 84 polling stations will be opened in South Ossetia, including two polls in the village of the Upper Ruck (Dzausky District RSO) for the South Ossetian citizens, living in North Ossetia, and one poll - in Moscow. According to the CEC, 40,000 ballots are printed, including those for the polling stations in Moscow and in the Upper Ruck. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of South Ossetia, in the Election Day, April 8, the entire staff of the Interior Ministry will be transferred to the barracks service. Throughout the country are planned raids, the streets will be patrolled constantly by the patrols crews. In total, more than 1,000 police officers will be involved in protection of the public order.
The first round of presidential elections in South Ossetia took place on March 25.
Four candidates: former KGB chairman, Leonid Tibilov, the Ombudsman David Sanakoev, the Ambassador of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation Dmitry Medoev and the Communist Party leader Stanislav Kochiev were aspiring to the state high office.
As a result of the second round of voting, Leonid Tibilov, who collected 42.48%, and David Sanakoev with 24.58% of voters will fight in the second ballot.
