International conference “South Ossetia at the Crossroads of Civilizations. Problems of Security and Sustainable Development” is being held on Saturday in Tskhinval.
The event was organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic in cooperation with the Russian National Committee for the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (RNC BSEC).
The conference is attended by entrepreneurs, scientists, government officials.
South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev greeted those present, noting that some of the announced participants were absent for objective reasons.
“I would like to express my gratitude to you for finding the opportunity to overcome the obstacles that the coronavirus pandemic poses in front of us in today's realities. Unfortunately, some of the conference participants could not come for the same well-known reasons,” Medoev said.
Deputy Chairman of the RNC BSEC Nikolay Karataev briefly spoke about the activities of the Russian National Committee for the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
“Our organization will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. It was established in 1992 on the initiative of Greece, Turkey and Russia with the aim of strengthening economic ties in the Caucasus, the Black Sea and the Southern Balkans.
We have many partners who are willing to cooperate with us in the economic sphere. These are representatives of India, Pakistan, Poland, Czech Republic and other countries who share with us their best practices in the field of technology. Recently, however, we have come to the conclusion that it is necessary to carry out an analysis of cultures in parallel, so we have many cultural programs providing for the exchange of experience. In a word, there is public diplomacy,” he said.
State Adviser to the President Gennady Kokoev spoke about the state of the national economy, the economy of the Republic, noting that as a result of 18 years of the Georgian aggression in South Ossetia, suffered large-scale material losses.
“The main strategic goal of South Ossetia today is to build an economically self-sufficient, investment-attractive state, comfortable for living and ensuring a high quality of life for the population.
Achievement of this goal presupposes the achievement of a number of long-term goals determined by the resource potential of the Republic, capable of ensuring the sustainable development of South Ossetia, including economic, infrastructural, social and institutional goals,” Kokoev said.
Further, the conference participants spoke about their projects, offering the South Ossetian side cooperation in the given areas.
In particular, they were talking about new technologies in public-private partnerships, construction, development of the agro-industrial complex, the "Personnel Reserve" project, training young people from South Ossetia in the College of Digital Technologies, participation in the international anniversary forum in 2022 with the aim of popularizing, promoting and monetizing humanitarian projects in the field of culture and art of representatives of South Ossetia, etc.
The parties will discuss the proposed projects in more detail at the round table “Tourism, Culture and Sports in South Ossetia - Opportunities and Prospects. Preservation and Development of Ethnocultural Diversity” and during a meeting of business representatives, which will also be held on Saturday.
As a result of the conference, a final resolution will be adopted, the parties will approve a working group on the development and implementation of the roadmap.
It should be reminded that the day before, as part of the cultural program, the participants of the event visited the A.A. Tibilov South Ossetian State University, where a meeting with the rector of the university Vadim Tedeev took place, visited the museum complex of the university and examined the exhibits of archeology and ethnography.
A sightseeing tour was also conducted for the guests in the National Museum of South Ossetia, in the city of Tskhinval, as well as in the wine production enterprise "Ironsaen Winery".
