On the eve of the celebration of the 79th anniversary of the Victory in Tskhinval, a solemn ceremony was held to lay a Garland of Glory and Memory at the Obelisk of the fallen during the Great Patriotic War.
The event was attended by the leadership of the Republic led by President of the Republic Alan Gagloev, Russian Ambassador to the Republic of South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, ex-President of the Republic Leonid Tibilov, representatives of ministries and departments, as well as the public.
The head of state and the ceremony participants laid wreaths and flowers at the Eternal Flame.
The rally participants observed a minute of silence in memory of all those perished on the battlefields during the Great Patriotic War.
After the official wreath-laying ceremony, a concert with wartime songs and dances took place.
During the event, it was noted that without the past there would be no present.
“We should never forget this page in the history of our country, albeit terrible and tragic one, which claimed thousands of lives. Low bow to our grandfathers and great-grandfathers for the peaceful sky above,” the host of the event said.
