The congress of the international public movement "Supreme Council of Ossetians" ("Styr Nykhas") is an opportunity to once again emphasize the responsibility to history and future generations. This was stated by President Alan Gagloev in his message at the congress. The text of the address was read out by the head of the South Ossetian branch of "Styr Nykhas" Leonid Tibilov.
Preservation of the Ossetian language, culture and traditions is the integral part of the identity of the people, the President has emphasized.
"Styr Nykhas" plays a key role in preserving and developing the Ossetian culture, language and traditions. It is a unifying force that helps us not only maintaining ties between generations, but also actively work to pass on the values and knowledge to future generations. Through its initiatives, projects and organizational work, Styr Nykhas serves not only as a link between Ossetia and the diasporas, but also as a platform for restoring cultural traditions, popularizing the Ossetian language and promoting pride in our heritage and culture,” the President’s message reads.
Gagloev emphasized that the election of the former South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov as the head of the branch in the Republic was one of the important events for Styr Nykhas.
“We are in constant contact, discussing the work prospects and have already begun implementing new initiatives. Particular attention is paid to creating a youth wing that will involve young Ossetians in our common task of promoting the language and culture,” he has noted.
The head of the Republic has added that the leadership of South Ossetia is doing everything possible to raise the development of national culture to a qualitatively new level.
“I would especially like to note the contribution of our creative groups, who have toured many cities in Russia this year. They demonstrated to the audience the beauty of the Ossetian dances and songs, winning the audience with their skills. The culmination of these tours were the Days of Ossetian Culture in Moscow, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of Ossetia's accession to Russia and the 165th anniversary of the great Kosta Khetagurov. As part of these celebrations, the Simd and Alan groups performed in the very heart of cultural Russia - the Bolshoi Theater, representing the north and south of Ossetia. Their performances became a symbol of the unity and richness of our culture," Gagloev has noted. He added that 2024 was a year of great anniversaries for Ossetia - the 165th anniversary of Kosta Khetagurov's birth, 250 years since Ossetia became part of the Russian Empire, 35 years since the events of November 23, 1989, when the people of South Ossetia stood up to defend their land. Thousands of people came out to the march, and it became a symbol of patriotism
"These significant dates unite us and emphasize that the culture and history of Ossetia are our national heritage," Gagloev has emphasized.
It should be reminded that the 11th Congress of the Ossetian people is taking place in Vladikavkaz today under the motto: "As part of Russia, we will preserve our history, language and identity."
Ossetians from all the republics and from abroad came to the large-scale event, which is taking place at the Ossetian Theater. The congress has not been held since August 2018.
