Members of Parliament and representatives of the Central Election Commission of South Ossetia will travel to Abkhazia as the international observers at the presidential elections.
As reported to IA “Res” by Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-parliamentary Relations Zaza Driaev, who will head the parliamentary delegation, the deputies will travel to Abkhazia at the invitation of Speaker of the Republic's Parliament Lasha Ashuba.
"As part of the trip, we also have a meeting scheduled with Lasha Ashuba. We will also hold meetings at the Central Election Commission and a meeting with the Acting President of Abkhazia is planned," Driaev said.
According to Driaev, the delegation will include Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Construction, Communications and Natural Resources Ivan Slanov and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Legislation, Legality and Local Self-Government Alan Gagloev.
The deputy has noted that the delegation intends to visit all polling stations in Sukhum and visit the districts of Abkhazia.
The Central Election Commission of South Ossetia has also received the invitation to participate in the Abkhaz elections. The delegation will be headed by Chairman of the Central Election Commission Emilia Gagieva.
“The CEC delegation will go as the international observers at the invitation of Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Abkhazia Dmitry Marshan. We will visit the polling stations, observe the election process and stay there until the results are announced,” Gagieva told IA “Res”.
The early presidential elections in Abkhazia will be held on February 15.
Five people are running for the post of head of state: the prominent Abkhaz politician Badra Gunba, former trade representative to Russia Oleg Bartsits, former head of the Republic's Control Chamber Robert Arshba, the oppositionist Adgur Ardzinba and Chairman of the Black Sea Development Bank Adgur Khurkhumal.
