South Ossetia is discussing with the Russian party the possibility of excluding residents of the Republic who do not have Russian citizenship from the new rules for crossing the border with the Russian Federation, Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev said at the session in the Parliament.
According to the new regulations, from June 30, 2025, foreigners will be required to undergo fingerprinting and photographing upon entry into Russia.
“A dialogue is underway with the Russian colleagues at various levels, including the Presidential Executive Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
There are positive shifts that inspire cautious optimism regarding the solution to the problem,” Dzhioev said.
The issue, according to him, is complex and involves many aspects.
“However, the work on its development is going on continuously,” he has noted.
South Ossetia sent the official note to the Russian Foreign Ministry with a request to exclude the Republic from the list of countries subject to the new regulation, similar to the Republic of Belarus.
Russian citizens entering the country will not be subject to these procedures.
Children under 6 years of age are also exempt from the need to undergo fingerprinting and photographing.
Before traveling to Russia, one must submit an application on the State Services portal 72 hours before entry, and in emergency cases - 4 hours.
