Today in Ossetia is the anniversary of mournful memory, the memory of one of the most tragic pages in the history of Ossetians - the genocide committed by Georgia in 1920. The victims of genocide then became tens of thousands of people - children, women, old people; South Ossetia lost a third of the Ossetian population.

A thousand balloons by the number of genocide victims from Georgia were launched in all areas and the capital of South Ossetia. In memory of the victims of the genocide, balloons were launched at 944, 8 at the strategically important South Ossetian border post in the village of Uista (Tsnelis), as well as around the entire border.

In the capital of the Republic - Tskhinval, the rally was held by employees and activists of the Committee on Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism of South Ossetia.

The events of 1920 in South Ossetia, which had the most negative consequences for the Ossetians, should certainly be recognized by the international community as the fact of the targeted extermination of people on ethnic grounds by the Georgian government, and the organizers and perpetrators of these crimes should and will be punished, regardless of the statute of limitations, stated on Friday the State Security Committee of the Republic.

On June 20, 2020, Ossetia will mark the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Ossetian Genocide by the “Georgian Democratic Republic”.

June 20, in South Ossetia, according to the decree of President Anatoly Bibilov, was declared the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide of the People of South Ossetia by Georgia. This date was not chosen by chance. On this day in 1920, 13 Ossetians - Communards, were shot.

At one of the conferences of the South-Ossetian Research Institute Director Robert Gagloity, touching on the issues of the genocide of the Ossetian people, stated that two attempts occurred during the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century - the phases of the genocide of the people of South Ossetia. According to him, twice the Georgian fascists tried to break the will, erase historical memory, destroy national identity, deprive the homeland, and physically destroy the population of South Ossetia.

A hundred years have passed since the genocide unleashed by Georgia against the Ossetians in 1920. Witnesses of those terrible events are not alive, but their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember well the stories of the elders, who had to experience the whole horror of the Georgian fascism, which originated in those distant years. And to be more precise - Georgian Nazism has deeper historical roots.

June 20 in South Ossetia has become a Memorial Day for the victims of the genocide of the Ossetian people, President Anatoly Bibilov said at the meeting of the commission to perpetuate the memory of the events of 1920 on Thursday.

"Today I signed a decree on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Ossetian Genocide. For the Ossetian people, recognition of the genocide is recognition of tragedy. The main message is to bring to the international community the idea that the political elite of Georgia has always been hostile to Ossetians," Bibilov said at a meeting commission.

The main event of 2020 is a mournful date - the centenary of the Ossetian people’s genocide, - said the head of the South Ossetian information agency Maria Kotaeva at a briefing in Tskhinval.

According to her, all forces and resources will be directed to the implementation of events dedicated to this significant date in the history of Ossetia.

In 2020, the year of the centennial of the genocide of the people of South Ossetia, the Year of Remembrance will be held in the Republic. The corresponding decree was signed by President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov on Friday, December 27, the press service of the head of state reports.

The year of memory is held in connection with "the centennial of the Ossetian genocide carried out in 1920 by the Georgian Democratic Republic, and as a tribute to the national memory of the victims of the genocide tragedy."

The issue of collecting and preparing materials on the genocide of the people of South Ossetia in 1920, necessary for submission to the State Duma and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, was discussed at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on national politics, culture, religion and the media on Tuesday, the press service reported.
