Government of South Ossetia was instructed to develop measures to prevent the negative effects of the ban on the passage of vehicles through the simplified checkpoints of crossing the state border with Georgia. This was announced by the President of South Ossetia Leonid Tibilov at a press conference in Tskhinval with the participation of Russian and South Ossetian media.
The Head of State has noted that first of all he means Leningor district of the Republic, as until 2008 the majority of its territory was under the control of Georgia.
"In 2008, the Government of South Ossetia adopted a resolution on opening the checkpoints of a simplified crossing of the state border, one of which is located in the village of Mosabrun in Leningor district. This was due to the fact that many residents of the district had relatives in Georgia. At that time, a decision of the leadership, I believe, was the right one. Because in such a situation, cutting the cords that bind was unacceptable, "- said Tibilov.
He has noted that the same resolution of the government determined the amount of goods and cargo to be taken through the border - 50 kg per person per month.
"With the course of time road transport began crossing the border, in violation of the resolution," - said the president.
In this regard, according to Tibilov, it was adopted a resolution to ban the passage of vehicles through the simplified checkpoints; the resolution will come into force on September 18, 2013.
"People of the Republic have to realize the fact that there is a borderline between our Republic and the neighboring country which will be strengthened," - stressed the president.
According to him, the government of the Republic, given the fact that the adoption of such measures may affect social and socio-economic situation in Leningor district, instructed the relevant authorities to develop measures to prevent the negative consequences of such a decision.
