President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov, in the framework of his official visit to the Republika Srpska, met with the head of the municipality of Eastern Sarajevo Lyubis Kosic.
According to the press service of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry, during the meeting were discussed issues of development of friendly relations and ways of interaction between the cities of Tskhinval and Eastern Sarajevo, which is one of the largest centers of the Republika Srpska.
In particular, it was about cooperation in the field of education and culture, it was expressed readiness to contribute establishing and strengthening inter-municipal cooperation.
Anatoly Bibilov and members of the South Ossetian delegation laid a wreath at the monument to Vitaly Churkin, the Russian ambassador to the United Nations. The monument was installed in Eastern Sarajevo as a tribute to the Russian diplomat, whose life was closely linked to the events in the Balkans.
In 2015, Vitaly Churkin in the UN Security Council vetoed a draft resolution on Srebrenica, recognizing the events of 1995 as genocide. President of the Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik in 2017 awarded posthumously Vitaliy Churkin the Order of the banner of the RS with a silver wreath.
