During the Geneva discussions, South Ossetia appealed to international organizations to influence Georgia on the issue of searching for missing citizens of the republic, since the Georgian side does not follow the recommendations of an independent expert invited to investigate. The head of the South Ossetian delegation, the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy for post-conflict settlement issues Murat Dzhioev informed the news agency “Res” on Thursday.
The next (47) round of international discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia took place on April 2-3 in Geneva.
Earlier, in order to clarify the fate of the residents of South Ossetia who disappeared in 2008, the OSCE attracted an independent expert on criminal investigations, Dusan Ignjatovic, who began work in October 2015. The following year, he presented his recommendations, which the Georgian authorities did not follow. In this regard, the OSCE decided on the need to extend the mandate of Ignatovich.
"As part of the discussions, there was a discussion of issues related to the search for South Ossetia’s citizens kidnapped by Georgian security forces and missing on the territory of Georgia. The South Ossetian delegation noted the work of the invited OSCE expert Dusan Ignatovich, but also called on international organizations to influence the Georgian side so that they implement the recommendations contained in the expert’s reports, "said Dzhioev, noting that in South Ossetia they expect real results of the work of the international experts and want colleagues in Geneva contributed to this process.
As a result of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict from 1989 to 2008, more than 140 citizens of South Ossetia disappeared without a trace. The citizens of South Ossetia Soltan Pliev, Alan Khachirov and Alan Khugaev disappeared during the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict in 2008. Earlier, the authorities of the Republic announced remuneration for information about the missing citizens of the Republic in the amount of 1 million rubles for each.
The Geneva discussions on security and stability in the South Caucasus are held since 2008 with the participation of Russia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Georgia and the United States with the mediation of special UN, the EU and the OSCE representatives. The work is traditionally conducted in two working groups - on security and on humanitarian issues.
The next round of discussion will be held in Geneva in July.
