New investment projects and a five-year program for the socio-economic development of the republic were discussed at the meetings with the leadership of South Ossetia.
Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov told journalists about this while commenting on the preliminary results of his working visit to South Ossetia.
He has noted that South Ossetia is a strategic ally of the Russian Federation and the countries have long-standing, good and fraternal relations.
"Today's visit is connected with the discussion of the implementation of our current programs, joint work. The Russian Federation helps the Republic to restore and develop social infrastructure, allocates funds to replenish the Republic's budget, including for the functioning of the social sphere in the first place," Reshetnikov said.
During the meeting, they discussed the already launched the investment projects in the food industry, agriculture, natural resource extraction, and stone processing - a specialized enterprise in the Republic, according to the Minister, has great potential.
"We have also discussed the next five-year socio-economic development program. The President raised the issue of supporting small and medium-sized business, more actively attracting the tourists here, for which it is necessary, among other things, to begin the reconstruction of the Lower Zaramag checkpoint. The further issue of movement through social facilities was discussed," the head of the Ministry of Economic Development has added.
The Minister noted the positive dynamics of the development of the economy of South Ossetia: a 14% increase in trade turnover, an increase in GDP and an increase in budget revenues by more than a quarter since 2020.
Reshetnikov also shared his impressions of Tskhinval.
"I have really liked the city - cozy, calm, safe and well-maintained. Therefore, I urge everyone who will visit the North Caucasus to visit South Ossetia, especially if you stop on the way in Mamison, which will be developing in the coming years. But believe me, this side of the Greater Caucasus Range is no less interesting than the other, so I urge everyone to visit Tskhinval,” the Minister has concluded.
