Moscow is hosting the events dedicated to the eleventh anniversary of the tragic events in South Ossetia, which in August 2008 was subjected to armed aggression by Georgia. On the territory of the embassy of South Ossetia, the state flag of the Republic was lowered.

Participants in the commemorative action lit candles and honored the memory of the perished with a minute of silence. The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic to Russia Znaur Gassiev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Abkhazia to Russia Igor Akhba, First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of North Ossetia, Chairman of the Moscow Ossetian Community Alexander Totoonov, First Deputy Plenipotentiary of North Ossetia under the President of the Russian Federation Vadim Kormilkin , employees of the Permanent Mission of North Ossetia under the President of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of South Ossetia in Russia, the Moscow Ossetian public community, young people and citizens of the capital.

Memorial services will be served in honor of the victims- at 11:00 in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and at 14:00 in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kulishki (the Alan town church).

On August 8, 2008, Georgia launched an armed attack on South Ossetia. Russia defended the citizens of the Republic and its peacekeepers. The war lasted five days. On August 26 of the same year, President of the Russian Federation signed a decree recognizing the independence of South Ossetia.
