The situation in the village of Tsnelis remains tense due to the illegal Georgian police post on the territory of South Ossetia. South Ossetia sees the solution to this issue only in the removal of the illegal post from the territory of our Republic. This issue is periodically raised at the technical meetings as part of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms, but so far, the parties have not reached a common denominator.
And further raise bids
According to Yuri Vazagov, head of the Information and Analytical Department of the Presidential Executive Office of South Ossetia, Georgia, through its actions, provoked a new round of tension in the region. “At the same time, the recent events show that so far everything will go on increasing, since Tbilisi is not ready to admit the failure of the initial plans. In addition, the current aggravation in the Georgian-South Ossetian relations is beneficial to many forces, both in Georgia itself and abroad, and they are clearly not satisfied with the solution of the problem on the basis of a compromise model proposed by the South Ossetian side,” he noted.
The expert has added that the customers of the Tsnelis crisis are ready to continue raising rates, hoping that South Ossetia will make concessions on such fundamental issues as the arrangement and strengthening of the state border. “This will allow to start implementing the so-called new initiative of the Georgian authorities, “The step into a better future,” aimed at significantly weakening Russian influence in South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
The western partners of Georgia are extremely interested in such a result. For them, the current escalation of tension with increasing power and information pressure on South Ossetia, in order to achieve important concessions, is in the interests of the policy of “containing” Russia in the Black Sea-Caucasus region,” said Vazagov.
"Copyright" amendments
In his opinion, along with increasing the military presence of the United States and NATO in Georgia, such information and military operations in the region are an integral part of the general plan of action directed against Russia. “The Georgian authorities, despite the lessons of August 2008, are once again ready to act as a supplier of cannon fodder, performing the functions assigned to them.
However, it seems that the government of the “Georgian Dream” did poorly with the assigned tasks or introduced its own into the scenario developed by Western curators. At least, the evident slippage with its implementation is already obvious to everyone. South Ossetia tightly closed its borders with Georgia, plus the Tsnelis direction was significantly strengthened, that minimized the bonuses that the Georgia had received after the construction of the fortified roadblock near the village of Tsnelis (Uista),” said the head of the department.
Rude and awkward
On the diplomatic front, the Georgian authorities are also not going as smoothly as expected, and this despite the massive support of the EU, the United States and other Western countries. According to the expert, the main catch for them is that Georgia was the first to violate the status quo that took shape after August 2008, and did it rudely and clumsily, which greatly complicated the situation for its patrons.
“This fact, in particular, is recognized by former Georgian State Minister Paata Zakareishvili, who has noted that rash decisions by the Georgian authorities put foreign partners in an uncomfortable position, who usually firmly support the territorial integrity of Georgia, but in this case they cannot do this, realizing the erroneous actions of the Georgian side . In his opinion, such actions testify to the incompetence and un-qualification of persons making such decisions,” he said.
Yuri Vazagov believes that the nervous statements that we have often heard from representatives of the EU and Western countries are just an emotional reaction to the disruption of the original plans and the obvious image costs that the European Union suffered in this situation, whose observers were clearly not on high.
