In Milan, was held a meeting of the initiative group to create the Italy-South Ossetia-Alania Friendship Association with the participation of the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev, who is on a European tour. According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry of South Ossetia, the meeting took place in the mansion of the well-known in Italy charitable organization Societa benefica el salvadanee de la montagneta.
The event was attended by representatives of the public of Milan and other cities of Italy, Italian media.
The meeting was opened by the Representative of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of South Ossetia in Italy Mauro Murgia, who noted that Italy has an interest in the Republic of South Ossetia, its history and culture of its people. Mr. Murgia also recalled that in 2008 the whole of Italy condemned the barbaric bombing of peaceful settlements of South Ossetia, undertaken by the criminal regime of Saakashvili, and in September 2004, all concerned people of the world perceived the tragedy of Beslan as their pain – in memory of the victims of this tragedy, memorials were installed in some cities of Italy.
Mauro Murgia has also introduced the initiator of the idea of creating the Association, Maricella Metalla, who was elected its President. Ms. Miatella spoke about the plans and tasks of the Association, the main of which is the development of cultural relations between South Ossetia and Italy - the organization of exhibitions of the Ossetian artists in Italy and Italian in South Ossetia, holding round tables and conferences on the history of Alans in the West, establishing contacts between the businessmen of two countries. Maricella Miatella has emphasized that all the activities of the Association will be aimed at popularizing Ossetian topics in close contact with other Ossetian communities in Europe.
During his speech, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev welcomed the initiative to create the Association and wished success in the noble cause of developing friendly relations between the peoples of South Ossetia and Italy.
During the meeting, made a speech the recently appointed plenipotentiary representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia in Sicily, Carmelo Scalizi, to whom Dmitry Medoev presented the corresponding certificate of representatives.
The participants condemned the aggressive policy of the Georgian leadership to aggravate the situation near the borders of South Ossetia and called on the European countries to pay attention to provocative actions of Georgia.
