The Georgian doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili, who was detained in South Ossetia for violating the border, crossed the border for personal purposes, not for treating the patient, at the time of his arrest he was drunk and behaved aggressively, told Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of South Ossetia Alexander Pliev to RIA Novosti.
Gaprindashvili is a well-known Georgian doctor who was detained by South Ossetian border guards on November 9. He was sentenced by a Leningor court of South Ossetia to two months in prison. He is charged with intentional violation of the state border. The investigation is underway.
"He (Gaprindashvili - ed.) was not going as a doctor. He crossed the border while intoxicated, behaved aggressively, did not recognize our authorities. And at the trial he openly stated that he did not recognize the authorities of South Ossetia that they were illegitimate," he said Pliev, participating in a meeting of the Commission on Cooperation of the Council of the Federation and the South Ossetian Parliament in Moscow.
According to him, during the detention and subsequently " the doctor was not touched by a finger, everything is in order with him." "He behaved very aggressively in court, and the judge considered himself offended, and instead appointed a fine, he appointed him two months (conclusions - ed.)," Pliev said.
At the same time, Pliev did not specify what would happen to Gaprindashvili after the expiration of the sentence. “Let's see, they will sort it out,” he said.
Earlier, the State Security Committee of South Ossetia reported that the detained Gaprindashvili as a medical doctor participated in the events of August 2008. On Thursday, the Committee stated that attempts by the Georgian opposition, its Western curators, and official Tbilisi to gain political points on the Georgian citizen Vazha Gaprinadashvili, as well as exerting pressure on the Republic’s authorities to improve its internal rating, are futile.
