The State Security Committee of the Republic of South Ossetia has been receiving the information about the operational situation in the border and central regions of Georgia, the press service of the department reported on Wednesday.
"The main threat-forming factors that negatively affect the security of the Republic are still:
- provocative activities of the Georgian power structures on the South Ossetian-Georgian state border;
- the coronavirus pandemic and the spread of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever;
- restriction by the Georgian authorities of the freedom of movement of representatives of the Georgian NGOs and civil society, as well as access to objective information about the processes taking place at the border, "the Committee noted.
In particular, on July 18 of this year, in the period from 18:40 to 19.00 by the Border Service of the State Security Committee of the Republic of South Ossetia in the area of the settlement of Disseu, Tskhinval district, was again recorded the fact of the unmanned aerial vehicle of the "quadrocopter" type in the airspace of the Republic. Considering the duration of the use of the UAV, its technical capabilities, as well as the trajectory of movement, it is obvious that it was used to conduct aerial reconnaissance of the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia in the area of the settlement of Xuis and Khelchua.
The situation with the coronavirus pandemic in Georgia remains difficult. Despite the statements of official Tbilisi about the decline in the spread of the disease in the country, the number of new infections has increased in the Georgian border and central settlements.
So, foci of COVID-19 are recorded in the villages of the Gardabani municipality - Karajalari, Akhtaklia and Karatakliya, in which more than 7 thousand people live. Local doctors do not handle PCR testing, which makes it difficult to determine the extent of the infection and makes it difficult to control the situation.
Also, the coronavirus was detected in 28 Georgian servicemen who returned from Afghanistan and were placed in the hospital in Gori.
In addition to the pandemic, the emergence in Georgia of a particularly dangerous natural focal disease of the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is a matter of serious concern.
In particular, since the beginning of this year, ten cases of the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever have been detected in Georgia, the last of which, recorded on July 19 of this year in the city of Tskhaltubo, - with a fatal outcome. The spread of this disease among livestock in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region is also recorded.
Against this background, according to information received by the KGB from various patriotic representatives of the Georgian NGO movement, the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the central regions of Georgia remains tense.
The State Security Committee of the Republic expresses gratitude to the Georgian NGOs and their leaders for their assistance in the context of regularly provided information, the possibility of objective coverage of the actions of the Georgian authorities and reasonable enterprise on the South Ossetian-Georgian section of the state border.
In particular, on the initiative of D. Katsarava, marks and symbols were recorded on the trees of the forest area of the border area, left by activists of his movement, who show on the ground the line of the state border. In the long term, these actions of the NGO movement will make it possible to achieve the proper level of consciousness of the citizens of Georgia, reduce the level of violations on the state border between the states and form in the Georgian society a consciousness of responsibility for violating the border legislation of the RSO.
The KGB once again reminds that all border facilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, as well as possible directions of penetration of violators of the state border, are located in the control zones and sectors of influence of the border forces of South Ossetia.
