In South Ossetia, they cherish the memory of their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who defended our freedom, the entire Soviet Union, liberating the world from fascism. This was stated by Executive Director of the Russian Presidential Grants Fund Anton Dolgov during his visit to Tskhinval.
"This year we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, which was the result of the contribution of all the peoples that were part of the Soviet Union, including the residents of South Ossetia.
The contribution of the Republic, its residents is simply amazing, - Dolgov said. - And the support of President of the Russian Federation in preserving this memory is very important."
Dolgov also emphasized the hospitality of the Ossetians and their desire to care for their shared history.
"I am very pleased to see genuine interest in our common memory. We are talking about our grandfathers and great-grandmothers, about the fact that we are Russians and Ossetians, and this is our common victory, - Dolgov has noted. - This inspires and instills confidence that memory is truly preserved. I am very impressed by how it is being preserved here today."
Dolgov has noted that perhaps some memorials erected in memory of the Great Patriotic War and its heroes require more serious attention than local administrations can afford.
"The funds allocated by President of Russia will help to put in order the monuments that require serious attention, - Dolgov has noted. - In the anniversary year, we will try to renovate the monuments so that guests of the republic can see them in beautiful condition. This will give us all pride in the fact that the Ossetian people turned out to be one of the most self-sacrificing, and will emphasize the number of heroes in terms of the number of Heroes of the Soviet Union per capita."
According to him, most of the work is planned to be completed during the anniversary year. The legal deadline for the completion of all projects is the end of 2026.
"Accordingly, in Russia we will hold a competition to determine the authorized organization that will represent our interests and transfer funds to the bank accounts of those who will perform the works," has clarified. "I think that in May or June we will be able to conclude contracts with the applicants and they will be able to receive funding for their activities."
