The State Security Committee of South Ossetia has informed that during 2020, 423 offenders were detained by the border authorities of the Republic and Russia at various sections of the RSO State Border, the press service of the department reports.
"Of these, 184 - for an attempt to illegally cross the State Border, 227 - for illegal stay in the border zone, 12 - for disobeying the legal requirements of officers of the Border Service of the RSO KGB and the Border Guard Service of the FSB of Russia in South Ossetia," the Committee said.
Of these violators of border regimes, 276 were fined, 12 were administratively expelled from the Republic, 55 were officially warned about the inadmissibility of illegal activities.
As part of the ongoing operational search activities, the border authorities discovered five caches with more than 1,500 various ammunition, 12 grenades, explosives and other military equipment. Two attempts to spread narcotic drugs were suppressed. 12 cases of smuggling activity were neutralized, as a result of which items and goods worth more than two million rubles were seized. 11 criminal cases were initiated.
The KGB of the Republic has warned residents of South Ossetia against violations in the border sphere, because it can lead to not only administrative but also criminal liability.
"It should be noted that the leadership of the Republic of South Ossetia supports the initiative to implement the right and freedom of choosing a further place of residence in accordance with the current legislation of the Republic. Understanding the need for certain categories of citizens to travel to Georgia, including the seriously ill, pensioners, etc., the competent authorities of the Republic consider and make individual justified decisions for each resident who has an urgent need to visit the territory of the neighboring state, " the KGB has stated
At the same time, the report says, the main condition for satisfying citizens ' appeals is the urgent need for crossing the border, as well as the exclusion of the possibility of harming the security of the RSO.
