A great friend of South Ossetia and the Ossetian people, the great Soviet and Russian actor and ardent patriot Vasily Semyonovich Lanovoy, has passes away. People's Artist of the USSR Vasily Lanovoy was a model of civic courage.
In South Ossetia, both old and young pay tribute to the magnificent images he created in the immortal cinema. More touchingly, the actor himself had warm feelings for South Ossetia.
From the very beginning Vasily Semyonovich was following with great sympathy the just struggle of the people of South Ossetia for independence from Georgia, he was against attempts to break their historical ties with great Russia. Immediately after the 2008 war, Vasily Lanovoy visited South Ossetia to express his attitude to what was happening, to the Ossetian people. He presented the servicemen the DVD film "Officers", where he played one of the main roles.
Lanovoy noted that he was struck by the contrast between the beauties of the nature of South Ossetia and the destroyed Tskhinval.
"I was amazed by the beauty of the nature of South Ossetia. On both sides of the road, views of nature of unthinkable beauty opened before us. As for Tskhinval, I did not think that the city was destroyed so much. After all, television spares us and, having seen all this firsthand, I can't imagine how Georgians and Ossetians can live together now. We see every day how aid is delivered here, and actors come here-that's right. We had one big homeland and to watch what is being done with its individual parts is unbearable, impossible, and we must somehow react to it, " Lanovoy said.
You will always be remembered in South Ossetia... may you rest in peace, dear Vasily Semyonovich ...
