One of the priority areas for South Ossetia is establishing contacts with the Union State of Russia and Belarus, according to the statement of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia dedicated to the results of the year.
The Ministry has noted that the Republic is taking certain steps to establish the new and strengthen the existing ties with the Union State.
“These are, first of all, contacts in the economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. In particular, Parliament of South Ossetia is a permanent observer in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Russia and Belarus since October 2008,” the Foreign Ministry has noted.
The Foreign Ministry reminded that in June, Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev and Ambassador of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Russian Federation Znaur Gassiev took part in the commemorative events dedicated to the Day of National Remembrance of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people in Brest (Belarus).
“On behalf of the people of South Ossetia, flowers were laid at the Eternal Flame in the memorial complex “Brest Hero Fortress,” the Ministry said. “Also in Brest Dzhioev and Gassiev took part in the round table in the format “Minsk - Brest - Moscow”, dedicated to for this significant date.
The presentation of the book "There is no Statute of limitations" from the series "Library of the Union State", which was based on materials collected by investigators and prosecutors of Russia and Belarus about the events of the mass extermination of Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War, was held as part of the round table.
The Foreign Ministry has added that on October 18 and December 15, Akhsar Dzhioev held meetings in Moscow with the Secretary of State of the Union State of Russia and Belarus D.F. Mezentsev, during which, among other things, the practice of interaction and cooperation, primarily in the fields of culture, education, science and sports, implemented by the Standing Committee of the Union State, was discussed.
