In Tskhinval flowers were laid at the monument to Kosta Khetagurov, the event is dedicated to the 165th anniversary of the birth of the great Ossetian poet, educator, artist, ethnographer, a founder of the Ossetian literary language and the Ossetian literature.

The leadership of the Republic, representatives of the creative and scientific intelligentsia, the public, and students of the educational institutions took part in the laying ceremony.

During her speech to the audience, Eteri Guzitaeva, the employee of one of the Tskhinval libraries, has noted that Kosta Khetagurov left the indelible mark on the culture and poetry of the Ossetian people.

“Today, the entire Ossetia - both the south and the north - is celebrating a significant day. Kosta's creativity work is accessible to everyone: his poems sound both for children and adults. In them, everyone will find a piece of their soul, individual lines find pride and love for their roots in the heart," Guzitaeva said.

According to her, through his poems and his poetry, Kosta always emphasized the importance of the unity of the Ossetian people.

"After all, only together we can build a bright future for our people, for the future generation and Ossetia, maintain cultural unity," Guzitaeva said.

Students of the educational institutions read out the lines of poems from the great poet's work.

The Ossetian poet and artist Kosta Levanovich Khetagurov was born on October 15, 1859 in the village of Nar. Kosta Khetagurov is the founder of the literary Ossetian language. In 1899, Khetagurov published a poetry collection "The Ossetian Lyre", in which the poems for children in the Ossetian language were published for the first time.
