Tbilisi continues to take actions that contribute to the complication of the situation on the state border of South Ossetia, refuses to carry out explanatory work among the local population and instead of preventing incidents on the border, incites its citizens to commit more crimes in the border area. This is stated in the message of the KGB of the Republic.

As reminded by the department, on January 22, guided by the principles of humanism and as a gesture of goodwill, the South Ossetian side handed over to Georgia its citizens Mamulia A.Z. and Dzhapiashvili V.Sh. in 2024, detained in South Ossetia for illegally crossing the state border and subsequently found guilty by the court of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Illegal crossing of the State Border".

However, as noted by the Committee, the State Security Service of Georgia has issued another tendentious statement, which contains unconstructive rhetoric regarding South Ossetia.

In particular, there is a statement about the responsibility of the "occupation forces" for the detention of the Georgian residents at the border, as well as the fact that they were handed over to the Georgian authorities allegedly as a result of the use of "all relevant mechanisms available to the central government".

"The KGB has noted that the statement of the State Security Service of Georgia in no way corresponds to reality. The Georgian side has nothing to do with the release of the violators, since Tbilisi does not have the instruments of influence on the processes taking place in South Ossetia. The release of the Georgian citizens is solely a decision based on the fact that they illegally crossed the state border for the first time, clearly by accident and with their active repentance,” the KGB said.

In this context, the KGB warns that the unconstructive rhetoric voiced by the Georgian authorities will certainly be taken into account in South Ossetia in the future when making further decisions regarding violators of the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia.
